Pet Collar Safety Tips – Please Read
Not every collar is right for every pet situation.
Fit is very important. Your collar is adjustable. You can shorten or lengthen the collar by sliding the material through the slide mechanism and pulling the material taught. In all cases, for comfort and proper fit, after adjusting the collar you should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your pet’s neck. Too much slack will increase the risk of your pet’s collar getting caught, too little and your pet will be restricted. Scratching at the collar when it is new is normal.
Most collar-related incidents involve fences or multiple pets interacting together, where the collar gets caught often due to jumping or playing. If your pet is routinely exposed to these types of environments, you can order a custom break-away collar that has a buckle which will easily separate if the collar gets caught. This type of collar is NOT appropriate for use with a leash because a break away collar will not restrain your pet. We encourage you to pay close attention to your pets’ environment at all times. Remove your pets’ collar whenever interacting with other pets for instance, or if your unattended pet is prone to cross over, under, or though a fence or fence opening.
Our Standard Buckle collar is strong and durable. If your pet is a ‘tugger’, you may want to consider a double layer collar for added strength. Our collars have a ‘D’ ring to attach your dog’s identification, vaccination, and license tags. If you don’t have an identification tag, you can order an engraved tag from our web site. Select the collar that’s best suited to your pet’s size and weight.
Our Martingale collar is designed to tighten around your pets’ neck when pulling or lunging on leash. Martingale collars can help you train your pet, but caution should always be used. Stay alert to your pet’s condition and avoid prolonged straining around the neck.
Our H Harness is well suited for walking with your pet. The harness alleviates pressure around the neck and allows you to easily pull your pet out of the way. Consider providing your pet multiple collars, each appropriate for it’s own special situation. When selected and used properly, your collar will become a natural and unnoticeable part of your relationship, and it can make a statement too!
